My name is Amanda Douglas, and I believe it is time for things to improve in the state of Oklahoma-- and in the United States.

Hello. My name is Amanda Douglas. I was born and raised here in the great state of Oklahoma. I grew up in the small town of Glenpool, graduated from Oklahoma State University and have lived in the Tulsa area ever since.
I'll start by saying that I am deeply disturbed by the actions of the current presidential administration. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, if you are unhappy with what you are seeing in Washington, this message is for you.
THE PROBLEM
I am disgusted by the lies. I am sick of the lack of ethics in the highest leaders in our land and the poor example they set for our kids. I am disturbed by the cronyism and favoritism that runs rampant in Washington. I am dismayed that our government operates in a way that is financially beneficial to the politicians, while our tax dollars are squandered in the most ridiculous ways. Yet we have no control, thanks to the needs and desires of so many Oklahomans being totally unrepresented at the national level.
In fact, northeastern Oklahoma is so skewed that not a single non-Republican candidate has officially registered to run for the 1st District in the coming 2018 election. Most agree that this is because it is historically a heavily Republican district-- it hasn't seen non-Republican representation since 1987. The thought is that there isn’t enough support for anyone other than a Republican to even bother running. And yet, I somehow at the same time know so many people, so many families, who are ready to pack up and move away from this state at the first chance, due to inept government, poor budget management, and lack of representation on critical matters at a federal level.
Additionally, the current political climate leads me to believe that this could be a true turning point in the history of Tulsa’s 1st District. I believe that many members of the Republican party may, in the midterm elections, be looking for reasonable alternatives to their Congressional candidates on the Republican ticket— candidates who pledge their support to a leader that many Republicans were unhappy about electing in the first place. If ever there was a time to try to compromise and find a middle ground against a common enemy, that time is NOW.
THE SOLUTION
Therefore, I've decided to try to DO something about making this state (and this country) a better place for us all to live, by attempting to run for the District 1 Congressional seat. I realize this is unexpected, but this tumultuous political climate is the perfect time to start revolutionizing the way Oklahomans and all Americans see this state. And we cannot change a thing without a candidate on the ballot.
Yes, I know. I am not exactly drowning in political experience; however, I want you all to know that I consider that an advantage over other candidates at this point. We need fresh air in Washington. We need representation in Congress that is NOT part of the club-- someone who is there for the good of the PEOPLE, not for financial gains or exploitable opportunities.
With that being said, I must warn you that I don’t intend to be what you might consider a “traditional” candidate. Again, I consider this an advantage. I intend to be blunt. I intend to be honest. And I intend to offend, when offense is what is called for. I intend to fight fire with fire. I do not intend to be polite and demure, as the time for such has come and gone. Because I believe this is what our state and our country needs right now: It is time for us to come together, to stand up and fight -- and make it clear that we are not going to stand idly by as inept, unethical crooks destroy our beautiful country and government.
I hope you will allow me to lead that fight.
I am willing to go the distance-- to go to Congress and fight for all of us to have a place to live that we can be proud of. The first step I must take is to officially register as a candidate and pay the $750 registration fee by April 13th. This will ensure sure my name is on the primary ballot in June.
That's where YOU come in. My friends, my family, all those who know my political leanings, my personality and my capabilities. I will consider this initial fundraiser to be my barometer for how likely success could be for us in this district. Moreover, you are likely aware that unlike many career politicians, I am not wealthy. I'm like you-- I have a job, and bills, and a family that I must provide for, which doesn't leave a lot of expendable income to put towards political registration fees and administrative costs.
For these reasons, I am asking you to please donate today if you'd like to see my name on the ballot in November. If, together, we are able to raise the $750 registration fee, then I will officially register as a Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in Oklahoma's 1st District. And so, fellow Oklahomans, I put it to you:
Your donations, your ongoing support, and your word-of-mouth sharing of my campaign efforts will truly decide if I am able run this race.
Sincerely,
Amanda Douglas
