Update #5

The Kashefi family is home in Anaheim, California!

They are resting now and are deeply grateful for your generous donations and kind thoughts.

More Info

Bashir (a former US Military translator from 2009-2016), his wife, and their daughter have SIV status and emigrated to the US in 2017, settling in Anaheim, CA. In the years since they had two children who are both US citizens. This summer, the family of five went to Afghanistan to visit family. Now they are stuck outside Kabul and want to come home.

How Funds Will Be Used

Funds will maintain their expenses here in America until they return. These expenses include home, auto, critical mobile phone lines, and travel expenses for their return commercial flight to Los Angeles. Our goal may change, depending on how long it will take before their extraction and the variability of travel expenses.

Update #4

Good evening donors,

We are delighted that the Kashefis have been able to leave Afghanistan for Doha, Qatar. The most dangerous part of their journey home is in the rearview mirror and, thanks to you, we have been able to maintain expenses here and send money to the family.

Their journey continues.

We raised money to help sustain local expenses. However, it's unclear how much money they will need for their return flight. Please continue to spread the word among your fellow angels.

This afternoon, both NBC and KPCC shared the family's story. You can view them here:

Update #2

Dear Donors,

We have been in recent communication with Bashir.

He explained that a rocket hit their neighbor's house in the middle of the night a few weeks ago. Several people were injured, perhaps killed. The rocket attacks led the family to take shelter in the basement and later move out of Kabul.

Bashir has moved his family four times in the past week, going to the homes of family or friends. Just this week, people have started searching house by house across several districts. Bashir isn't sure who these people are, but they have guns and are looking for people and papers.

The airport trips are especially harrowing. Sometimes they move at night and sometimes by day, always via taxi, never revealing the real reasons for travel. They experienced harassment and nearly had their travel documents destroyed. In another episode, a large crowd temporarily separated Bashir from his wife in the dark.

As you can see in the new video, revised images, and copy, we have redacted information that could compromise the family’s security.
Bashir and his family send their deep appreciation for your donations.

Update #1

Dear Donors,

Your contributions humble us. You are all angels.

We are in contact with Bashir. We understand that he is in touch with the State Department. The State Department knows where the family is located. The last instruction to the family was to sit tight until a way out can be arranged.

Gratefully yours,

Irene, Jane, Laurel, Miry, and Shereef
