Amina faced torture, kidnapping, and threats on her life. She finally managed to escape to Equador, and walked across Central America with a group. Many people did not survive the journey. She reached the U.S. border only to be put in detention for a year and a half. Since she did not speak English or Spanish, she could not make her needs known. Finally two women from Freedom for Immigrants visited her, and secured a brilliant lawyer.
With the participation of the ACLA and huge numbers of community supporters, Amina secured her release, and is waiting for her asylum case to be decided.
She lives in Houston, Texas, and tries to make a living by cleaning houses. This became difficult during the pandemic.
Despite days of discouragement, the strong spirit that has brought her to freedom remains strong. Her main goal now is to find a good job and support herself.
In order to seek better work in Houston, she must take driving lessons and buy a car. Your donations will take her to her main goal.
