Wow! We've surpassed our goal of $15,000. To all of the 57 donors and the many other supporters who shared our campaign, thank you all so much! Since we still have 6 days left, we thought we might as well keep going. If you haven't donated yet, please take this time to help us reach our new goal of $18,000! That way we can bring even more young aspiring farmers to Santa Fe!
The biennial conference of the Biodynamic Association (BDA) brings together more than 700 farmers, gardeners, educators, researchers and food lovers to teach, learn, connect and share about biodynamics and sustainable agriculture in a new region of the continent every two years. In addition to the dozens of educational workshops, participants also hear from inspiring keynote speakers, meet in peer-to-peer learning communities and visit and learn from thriving local farms.
Who will steward our farms and grow food for our communities thirty years from now?
The future of agriculture depends on the next generation of farmers.
Helping these young people gain the skills, experiences and community support they need a major focus of the work of the BDA.
Biodynamic Scholarship Fund’s Stats of success:
The BDA began its work in 1938 and is considered to be the oldest sustainable agriculture organization in the United States.
Since 2010, the scholarship fund has awarded over $80,000 to over 400 beginning farmers, experienced farmers and others to attend workshops and conferences all over the country.
Applicants are carefully screened and selected by a committee of volunteers. Scholarships are only awarded to about half of those who apply.
We've arranged for low-cost housing for scholarship recipients during the conference.
Past recipients have made life-changing connections at this conference, which have allowed them to find the land they now farm or the farming partner they had been seeking or courage they were lacking to make a start in agriculture or a major change to their existing farm operation.
This year, with our location in New Mexico, we plan to offer many scholarships to Indigenous and Latino American farmers.
Thank you for supporting the Biodynamic Scholarship Fund!
Special thanks to John & Cooley for filming the video, we couldn't have done it without you! Thanks to Wali Via and Winter Green Farm.
