Sandy was diagnosed on July 30, 2024 with malignant multifocal Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, a rare form of breast cancer. Her warriors include family and friends, and we are hoping you will join the fight with us. Sandy is a fighter and has been at battle conquering this villain. But she’s not alone—not if we have anything to say about it.
Our mission is to help ensure Sandy has the funds she needs to continue to receive the ongoing medical care she needs while on her journey through recovery, and reduce her mental and financial burden.
We think it’s important you know a little about her journey. If you know Sandy, you know she always has to stand out in the crowd and is always “EXTRA”. This adventure, of course, would be no different. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) comprises only around 10% of breast cancer diagnoses. Far less research and funding exist for this form of cancer.
Sandy had a lumpectomy in September; however, during the surgery they found another tumor. She went into surgery again in October to clear the margins of the 2nd tumor. To make matters worse, Sandy developed an infection deep within her breast, underwent another surgery and was hospitalized for 7 days in November.
That Sandy, always gotta be “special”. As a result of the surgeries, hospitalization and recovery, Sandy was either unable to work or limited to a part time schedule while she healed. This increased her financial burden and stress substantially.
As you are all aware, oftentimes, treatment, imaging and other necessary medical services to fight this battle are withheld until at least a portion of the patient’s copayment/coinsurance is paid. Even visits to the oncologist require payment at the time of the visit. Sandy has frequent visits to two Oncologists, her surgeon and her primary care doctor. This adds up quickly. The funds will also be used to pay the out of pocket cost for the imaging, radiation treatments and medication.
Most importantly, every bit of support lets her concentrate on what truly matters - her health.
