Brotherly Service

Our names are Chris and Daniel Hernandez. We are brothers two and a half years apart, young and of course handsome as ever (Chris has the eyes and Daniel has…the eyebrows). Now in college, we are looking for ways to serve others either locally or internationally. Blessed to have an opportunity, we just signed up for a week long mission trip over our spring break in March to Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic with the non-profit Here for Kids International. 

Daniel: This will be my third trip with Here for Kids - essentially, we will be assisting a Christian children’s home (The Ark) and school (Anija) in whatever areas of need (ranging from construction of another school building to repainting worn walls of the classroom) and be caring towards them which consists of lots of soccer, altopa (translates “tag” in spanish), caballitos (piggy back rides), and breaking bread together. Even though this trip lasts only a week, I have learned that there is much meaning for us as volunteers in the humility, love, and camaraderie experienced and the locals receiving the attention and care they deserve. It is quite difficult to describe in words the fullness of the trip but is really something to experience. 

Chris: - This will be my first trip with Here for Kids. I wanted to experience the joy of serving others and I think this opportunity falls in line with my passion to have fun with kids , to play soccer and to enjoy this crazy journey called life. We want to spread hope  in whatever way we can and it would be a privilege to work with the foundation so that I could have a better perspective in my life as well
