This fundraiser marks a key milestone in activating The People’s Land — NuLegacy’s dream project — a BIPOC Trans-led space for healing, hands-on land-based learning, and deepening our ancestral connection. NuLegacy is a long-term vision rooted in building a self-determined ecosystem where safety, care, and liberation are possible through relationship to land. To continue shaping this vision, we’re focused on building three 10x12 wooden sheds and learning the foundational skills of construction that will support everything to come.

Our journey began with a 5x6 steel shed, a dry run that allowed us to design and build our very first wooden platform foundation (see pictures above). The end result was more than just a successfully completed structure—it was a moment of overwhelming pride, accomplishment, joy, and awe as we stood witness to something we crafted with our own hands.

Now, we are taking our skills to the next level—by building three fully functional 10x12 wooden sheds from the ground up. Located on 20 acres of farmland near Ithaca, NY, The People’s Land provides the space for this next phase of land-back stewardship. In the process, we will secure essential survival gear, support 2 youth apprentices, transport our team, and document this phase of land-back stewardship.

For the first time, our village members from Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn will live/camp on the land for several weeks, taking on the challenge of building and assembling these structures. These sheds will serve as vital storage for our camping gear, generators, tractors, water filtration systems, solar panels, composting toilets, and essential hand tools for land stewardship. They will also help cut down on the high costs of monthly storage in NYC—freeing up our resources, time, and energy to invest in long-term infrastructure that benefits more people and community-based development in the future.

Through this process, we are not just building structures—we’re building knowledge, collective capacity, and deeper trust in our ability to care for ourselves and one another. Rooted in the spirit of NuLegacy, each act of building becomes a practice in reclaiming our right to heal, grow, and live in alignment with nature. Learning by doing, we’re developing a rhythm of cooperation that shows how shared goals can fulfill personal purpose. We exist to restore what was stolen: our relationship to land, our connection to spirit, our ability to feel safe in nature, and our responsibility to care for it.

There are many pathways to guide us through this phase and help us reach our $20,000 goal. Whether 400 people give $50 or 20 people/orgs give $1,000—every contribution moves us closer to building the infrastructure we need to live, grow, and care for each other on the land.

For example:

  • If 400 people give $50, we can reach $20K
  • If 200 people give $100, we can reach $20K
  • If 80 people give $250, we can reach $20K
  • If 40 people give $500, we can reach $20K
  • If 20 people give $1,000, we can reach $20K
