It is with an incredibly heavy heart and deep sadness that I update Greg's status today.
He fought this fight with tremendous courage and always the best sense of humor he could find given the circumstances. Greg understood what was coming long before any of us were ready to acknowledge or accept this fate. While his physical condition has caused him much pain and suffering, we know he was at peace with his situation as he entered the hospital last week.
The family was called together this morning to learn that Greg had several strokes overnight and they resulted in bleeding in his brain After CT scans and consultation, his medical staff determined that this was not a situation that would improve nor one they could successfully treat.
After gathering around him for prayers and time to say our goodbyes we let Greg go home to be with God today.
This community of friends, family, admirers and supporters has been on a difficult journey over the last 5 years. Please know that you were each appreciated and your words and prayers gave Greg and his family strength. One of Greg's biggest fears was that we would all go back to our routines and forget that he was fighting for his life. You all never forgot. You visited, prayed, wrote encouraging words, delivered food (and sometimes beverages!) and loved him the way that he loved life and loved all of you.
Losing Greg leaves a tremendous hole in this family and this community of friends. The pain and sorrow we each feel won't easily be comforted. Please know that he now truly rests in peace and that the suffering he endured had taken it's toll on him. He was ready to go home and he just didn't want to let any of us down.
You fought, Greg. You endured and fought and we are nothing but proud of your will and your spirit. May you rest in peace in God's kingdom. Please watch over us and keep us as strong as you.
We love you Greg, and we will always miss you. Thank you for the memories and your love
