CANstruction is a unique community service event organized by AIA Philadelphia. Teams from the design and construction community will compete to build distinctive sculptures from cans of food. The resulting structures will be prominently displayed for public view in a gallery at 990 Spring Garden Street from April 1-9, 2017. All of the cans of food used in the structures will be donated to Philabundance at the conclusion of the display.
For the last six years, this team has designed and constructed a can sculpture to benefit vulnerable families in the Delaware Valley. In the past ten years, the Philadelphia competition has provided over 250,000 lbs of food to those in need across the Delaware Valley through Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization. Last year our 70’s decade peace sculpture “Give Peas a Chance” won the Juror’s Choice Award! We are very excited about this year’s design “Urban CANvas” – inspired by the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and that art ignites change (see concept sketch below). This year our goal is to raise over 4,000 cans!
We would like to ask YOU to be our partner in purchasing the cans needed for the design. We are asking you for a donation towards the canned food purchase. As a partner, you or your company’s name will be featured on the display board.
