Former “bait” dog turned K-9 officer, Kilo, with the Lawrenceburg Police Department, is in need of some protective gear and the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a fundraiser for him. At the top of the list is a heat alarm and door pop for the patrol car that will sense a mechanical failure and the temperature inside the vehicle and will actually open the door for the dog to escape. Kilo also needs a kennel for the back seat to protect him in case of a crash as well as a bullet proof vest. All this comes to about $6,000, an amount not included in the police department budget this year. In order to raise the funds, the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce held a “Coffee with Kilo” fundraiser on Wednesday, October 3rd at the Lawrenceburg Police Department. This fundraising kick-off produce $2,500 in donations from local businesses and individuals alike. Online giving will be accepted during the month of October.
