About Me

The 3rd Graders at Southport Elementary School are hosting the Southport Spin for M4M fundraiser on Friday October 4th, 2019. We are working to raise awareness for Multiple Myeloma while using Project Based Learning in the classroom. Students have been creating awareness at the school and the community by creating, posters, flyers, brochures, and newscasts about Multiple Myeloma. The 3rd graders are taking the lead on this project. This project is near and dear to the third grade team. Mrs. Jennifer Bolen's father-in-law, Larry Bolen, has Multiple Myeloma and has been fighting for many years. Mrs. Bolen's husband, Jon Bolen, has participated in 5 of the last 6 years of the Miles for Myeloma 2 day cyclist events to support his father Larry who has it. Please consider signing up and donating for our SES Spin for M4M. Please pay at least $1 per minute that you wish to ride. You may always donate more money. You will also need to sign up for a time slot at https://forms.gle/dSiwzEBp2W2AHCad8 . Thank you for your donation and signing up.

More Info

The goal is to raise awareness about this rare cancer and generate funding for research and enhanced patient care.

Each fall for over a decade, Dr. Abonour and his fellow Miles for Myeloma cyclists - a crew made up of myeloma researchers and medical caregivers, family members of patients and even a few patients themselves - set out on the annual Miles for Myeloma ride. The two-day cycling event gives myeloma patients and their loved ones the opportunity to conduct personalized fund-raising campaigns to generate awareness about the blood cancer and raise funding for IU research aimed at improving treatments for this rare disease.

Miles for Myeloma has raised more than $5 million for IU multiple myeloma research and patient care since 2005. The work funded by these dollars is helping us better understand the disease and conduct clinical trials to explore new treatment options.

To help support patients affected by the disease today, Miles for Myeloma has broadened its scope and the effort will support both research at the IU Simon Cancer Center via the IU Foundation and enhanced patient care at the IU Health Simon Cancer Center via the IU Health Foundation. Myeloma is incurable, so research and enhanced care are our hope for the future.

Disclaimer: Gifts to Miles for Myeloma support research at the IU School of Medicine via the IU Foundation and enhanced patient care at IU Health via the IU Health Foundation. Gifts and donor information are shared with both foundations. If you prefer your information not be shared, please contact Lizzie Conkle at 317-278-2120 or [email protected].
