Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition where team members work together to solve a problem and present their solution to the problem at the competition.
Riley, Aidan, Chris, Sam, Malinn, Chloe & Emmett (above, from left to right) have been working on their Odyssey of the Mind problem since November 2013.
Their problem required them to design, build and drive a vehicle -- without adult assistance -- that would complete required tasks in order to pass a "driver's test". The vehicle had to use one propulsion system to go forward, and then travel in reverse using a different propulsion system (video posted above).
The team came in 2nd place at the Vermont Odyssey of the Mind competition on March 22, 2014.
The top 2 teams advance to the World Finals, held this year in Ames, IA at Iowa St. University. Here the team will compete with 800 other teams from the US and around the globe in the world competition.
While the competition is what brings them together, it's the friendships and the chance to learn about other cultures that they will ultimately take away.
Our goal of $12,500 covers the cost of room and travel for the 10 participants (7 kids, 3 coaches). Please help us send these 4th graders to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals for what is sure to be a memorable and valuable experience!
Thank you! Any amount helps!
