Liam Hill - Parker is Pricey's oldest friend from childhood in England and will be flying in to run the Milwaukee Marathon to raise funds for Memory Cafe.
Memory Cafés offer people with dementia and their care partners the opportunity to enjoy fun social interaction with others in similar circumstances. Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia often lead to isolation - caregivers become too embarrassed to be in public situations despite their need for support and a chance to get out of the house. The Shorewood Memory Cafe at Three Lions Pub also helps to break the stigma associated with dementia, allowing people to be out socializing in a cozy pub setting that strives to be the “Community Living Room”. Memory Cafes actually started in the UK!
Anyone with memory loss is welcome at the Cafe, which is hosted monthly by a dedicated crew of volunteers who plan activities that range from trivia games to musical/dance programs, to themed discussions; about 25 people attend each month. The Shorewood Memory Cafe programs are fun and interactive for both the person living with the disease and their care partner. People come out of their shells when they have a chance to talk with and be around others in the same boat. The Memory Cafe provides people with the chance to connect and perhaps even more importantly, the chance to share a laugh.
