Raising money to buy *eidi* (a new year's present) for the children impacted by the earthquake at a village in the Kermanshah province. Hoping to make their *Norooz* this year almost as delightful as ours will be!

All,
I would like you THANK YOU for your help with our campaign to help the children in Zardeh. As many of you may already know, over the past couple of months, we faced several obstacles in the process of getting the children presents and the families food. Other aiding agencies were not letting us distribute our purchases claiming that our aid would only help one village and cause turmoil in the region. Which is silly, as it seems like there is not much aid available, and the people in the region, who are mainly Kurdish, are still struggling and the children.. well, they’re children and they just follow along during these tough times. Thanks to your help however, we were able to create something more permanent for the children instead. Something to look forward to..a place that allows them to be children : a playground!
With the $11,000 we were able to collect by the end of this campaign we bought playground equipment & are paying for labor for everything to get installed. The playground equipment is all “per code” for the children of all ages to be safe and we purchased them all from a manufacturer located in Tehran at half price (thanks to the generous manufacturing company). Here is breakdown of how your donation was/is being spent:
Playground Components:
Merry-go-round
X2 Slides
X2 Sets of Swings
Teeter-totters
X2 Playground Assemblies
X2 Metal Benches
X2 Light fixtures
Ground Cover
X1 Playground Signage
Labor & Installation Costs
Ground Leveling
Transfer of Equipment from Tehran to Zardeh
Installation of equipment
Installation of electricity & Lighting
Signage Installation
(note: Nearest small playground to this village used to be about an hour drive away).
Please visit/follow the Instagram page we created for updates and photos of our progress with the construction:

Again, apologies about the delay for an update… it has taken too many phone conversations, meetings, and arguments with heads of different organization to obtain this piece of land for free and to be able to get to this point. We may have not made it for Norooz this year, but hopefully the children will get to enjoy having a playground in the years to come
THANK YOU, again and again!!!!! Please stay tuned for more updates!!
Yours,
Mercedes & Pegah
Hi! My name is Mercedes. As many of you may already know, I am an Iranian architect living in Washington DC. I have started this campaign with the help of a dear friend of mine Pegah who lives in Iran. Pegah is a child psychologist and has been personally helping the children and families impacted by the earthquake in the Kermanshah province over the past few wintery months. Upon my last visit to Iran, and after finding out through Pegah about everything that the kids who were impacted need, I decided to help her raise more money with the help of my friends and acquaintances here in the U.S. .. in hopes that we could all help her help more.
Pegah has been traveling to Zardeh (a village about 50 km east of Sarpol-e-Zahab) in person providing the families with whatever her friends and family could offer so far, along with providing psychological support.
Let's help the children of Zardeh during *Norooz* this year by giving them each an *eidi* (a new year's present) they could cherish this year, on our behalf.. and perhaps someday we can help them get what most of them dream of.. a "khooneh" (a house), just like the ones they used to have before the earthquake..
I thank you in advance for your kindness and will post photos and videos of the impacts and impressions your generosity will make.
Yours Truly,
Mercedes and Pegah

We have 7 days to go and Pegah and I have already begun finding resources for the purchase and distribution of the goods. Thanks to several generous individuals we will be able to get the children bicycles and the parents some basic food supply packages for half the original price. We are also looking into purchasing 1 or 2 modular, and of course communal, shower/restroom units to provide for the communities around Zardeh that are in desperate need of them. Stay tuned for more..
