Dear Friends of Empty Gate Zen Center,
Thank you so much for all of your ongoing support. Whether you're a long-time member of Empty Gate Zen Center, the Kwan Um School of Zen or recently connected to one of our Zen Centers, we value all of your personal and financial contributions.
Our Berkeley and Boise branches have been closed to the public for two years because of the pandemic. Our online presence has connected our practice locations in a way we were not connected before. People from all over the world have participated in our dharma talks, retreats, and online practice offerings. Our members in Boise and at our sister Zen Center in Fairbanks, Alaska, have connected in ways that have helped make the Sangha stronger. Your contributions allowed us to continue these offerings.
Since we are uncertain when we will come out of the pandemic to open our centers for public practice, we are focusing current fundraising efforts to keep connected with the community in the Bay Area, Boise, and other people world-wide. We need to keep investing in equipment, including computers, audio and visual devices, to support and improve our hybrid retreats, practice, and talks. Furthermore, we need to attend to building maintenance, upgrades, repairs, and garden design at both Berkeley and Boise locations. The roof replacement alone at our Berkeley location is estimated at $18,000.
Please take a moment to consider a tax-deductible donation to support our ongoing activities and readiness for future projects.
Many thanks for your practice and your continued support of the Empty Gate Zen Center.
Yours in the Dharma,
Zen Master Bon Soeng (Guiding Teacher)
Jason Quinn JDPSN (Vice-Abbot)
Marshall White (Head Dharma Teacher)
Steve Watkins (Director)
