Significance of the Study

1.    Filling a Research Gap:

There is limited research focusing specifically on the experiences of family caregivers supporting loved ones in long-term remission from substance use disorder SUD. This study will fill this gap, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the recovery process.

2.    Improving Caregiver Support:

By highlighting the challenges and needs of caregivers, this research can inform the development of targeted support programs and interventions, enhancing the well-being of caregivers and the effectiveness of their support.

3.    Informing Policy and Practice:

The findings will provide evidence to guide policymakers, healthcare providers, and social service organizations in creating policies and practices that better support both individuals in remission and their caregivers.

4.    Contributing to Public Health:

The study's insights can lead to improved long-term recovery outcomes, ultimately benefiting public health by reducing relapse rates and enhancing the quality of life for those affected by SUD.

5. Expected Outcomes

  • A detailed understanding of the  experiences of family caregivers in the context of long-term remission from SUD.
  • Identification of common challenges, stressors, and coping strategies among caregivers.
  • Recommendations for policy changes and the development of support resources for caregivers.
  • Contribution to the academic literature on SUD recovery and caregiving.
