The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Rotary Club established the Feed the Knowledge program in 2013 after recognizing the need to supply weekend meals for children in the Lindbergh and Mehlville school districts. Through relationships with the district school counselors, students needing assistance were identified. During the first year, Rotarians provided weekend meal bags to 25 students at 2 elementary schools. Since then the program has grown to serve nearly 200 students at over 15 schools during the 2019-2020 school year and continues to grow.
The goal of Feed the Knowledge is to provide nutritious, kid-friendly, easy to prepare weekend food bags which are discreetly distributed to the students each Friday prior to school dismissal. A critical component to maintaining a healthy childhood is nutrition. Proper nutrition is important to establishing and maintaining a good foundation for a child's physical and mental health, academic achievement and productivity.
The arrival of COVID-19 to our city has not only complicated our delivery of food to these children but will inevitable create immediate needs that will need to be filled. We were able to get all 8-weeks of remaining food out to the families in bulk deliveries with schools shut down. However, the need for food will only increase as the effects of this pandemic drags on. Additionally we are working with counselors to identify basic home necessities and hygiene products these family desperately need which we may take for granted.
Your donation today will assist us in purchasing food and supplies for these families. Together we will lessen the burden families face and ensure children stay healthy. Please consider donating today!
