Catalina Island is a paradise for visitors, but for the 4000 Avalon community members who base their livelihoods on tourism on the Magic Isle, this has been a difficult time. Despite experiencing 90% unemployment, financial strain and a future that is difficult to define our community continues to be the best it can be. When the power of art for reflection, inspiration and relaxation is needed most, a paid trip to the museum is out of the question for most.
By helping us raise $23,000 you will open the doors to the Catalina Island Museum to Avalon residents for 3 months beginning on June 20th through September 27th so all can take part in experiencing the museum’s exhibitions including the highly-acclaimed "Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray." The exhibition is an intimate look at portraits of Kahlo made by her lover, Muray over a period of 10 years. Kahlo became one of the world’s most recognized artists and a cultural icon by embracing and depicting symbols of her Mexican heritage in her paintings that also document the physical and emotional agony she experienced in her life. Thank you for your generosity which will bring solace, joy and uplift to thousands!
