This past April I was referred by the Alliance for the Inclusion in the Arts to The Williamstown Theatre Festival internship program in Massachusetts This summer the theatre festival is partnering with the National Rosemary Kennedy Internship Initiative to help young theatre artists with disabilities enter the industry.
I have been offered a combined House Management, Audience Management, Public Relations, and Social Media Management internship with this prestigious Tony Award winning company for the 2015 summer season from June 17th to August 24th.
Housing and travel expenses have been generously covered by WTF for me. My only requirement while staying at the festival would be to take care of food costs. and other personal amenities.
Each position can be described as follows
House Management:
Observing and assisting the Williamstown Theatre Festival House Manager and Supervisor
Management of festival programs and ushering staff among other duties according to my supervisor if I were to attend the festival
Audience Management:
Observing and Assisting the Director of Audience Services, Box Office Staff and House Managers
Also to assist with festival programs and ushers among other duties determined by my supervisor if I were to attend the festival
Publicty Internship Program:
Observing and participating in operations within the Williamstown Theatre Festival publicity department
Developing skills in publicizing all festival productions and activities
Coordinating with stage managers and general management to schedule press interviews
Coordinating with all departments to schedule production photo shoots during the run of the festival
Assisting in generating production press releases for the festival along with other tasks determined by my supervisor if I were to attend the festival
The production season consists of 7 shows within the two month period for the internship. I would have the opportunity to work with several Tony Award Winners and nominees throughout the season, Audra McDonald (Porgy and Bess, 110 in the Shade) Will Swenson (Hair.,Priscilla Queen of the Desert, 110 in the Shade, Lestat and Brooklyn)Cynthia Nixon (Wit, The Real Thing) to name a few
Social Media:
Training and maintaining the WTF Blog
Learning to craft WTF's online presence on Facebook, Twitter and any other social media outlet
Tracking and responding to WTF's overall web presence
