Being autistic, Enzo is more likely to be a victim of danger than those without an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Enzo doesn't recognize danger as it is happening. And when he becomes aware, he becomes over-stimulated, which impairs his response to the danger. Socially, Enzo is not likely to notice when peers are teasing or making fun of him. When/if he becomes aware, he will likely become overwhelmed by it. This makes him at a higher risk of depression, violence, even suicidal thoughts than most of his peers.
The Joshua Center understands these risks to Enzo and others with neurological disorders all too well. So they created this 'first-of-its-kind' safety camp, with the help of local experts in different fields, to cover:
Not only will these kids learn the way they need to be taught, but the local experts doing the teaching will even benefit by learning how our neurologically challenged children perceive danger and authorities. This has got to be the most comprehensive safety program tailored for neurologically challenged children that has ever been offered. It makes it a special opportunity Enzo shouldn't miss.
The fact is, Enzo is more likely to be a victim of danger. My family works very hard to teach him how to handle danger. We aren't perfect, and we aren't his best teachers. We're asking for our friends and family to help us in whatever size they feel comfortable, pay for Enzo's camp. We appreciate your consideration. Thank you.
