On Friday, January 12th, 2024, Lois tripped and fell while transporting plants inside her home. She called 911 and first responders were able to dig a path in the snow to get her out of her house.
EMS crews transported her to the Harlan ER where she had X-rays of her lower body. The doctor determined that she had fractured her femur in several places and needed to get to a trauma unit in Omaha. She was taken by ambulance to the University of Nebraska Medical Center where she was stabilized. Emergency surgery was performed on Saturday at 7am. The best trauma surgeon in Omaha was able to remove hardware from her previous fall and replace it with a rod to stabilize the broken bones.
Lois’s overall prognosis is good, although there is a significant & costly rehabilitation road ahead with extended debility due to the nature of her injury.
Lois has touched the lives of so many people and is a friend to all creatures and good things of this earth.
