Help the BHS help "Grace"

Last Thursday, 9/11/14, Grace was hit by a car near our gym. She was hobbling through the field behind the gym and looked to be in bad shape. We did not know what to do so we called the City to see if they could help. They told us they would send out someone to get her. Later that day we saw the truck come and go, and assumed they picked her up. On Friday she was spotted behind the building trying to find some cover from all the rain. We again called the City and they said they would be out to pick her up as soon as possible. We were closed for the weekend and when we returned to work on Monday she was laying on the side of the building. She was obviously crippled and had not eaten in at least 4 or 5 days. We gave her some water and some food and then called the Baytown Humane Society. We spoke with Marilyn Kinney, Chairman of the BHS, who devised a plan to help Grace. After finding her a foster home Marilyn got her an appointment to the Veterinary Clinic where we found out that Grace would need major surgery to repair her broken hip and fractured pelvis. This is a surgery that will cost between $4,500-5,000. Marilyn agreed to pay for her surgery through the Baytown Humane Society but they took a big hit in the process. Any donations would help them recover from helping Grace.    

 If you have read this far please know that this dog deserves to be helped. We believe that she was meant to find BayWay CrossFit, and we were meant to help her. When she finally made her way into the gym on Monday, 9/15/14, people were already trying to name her. Of course being a female dog we were trying to think of a Benchmark Girl Work Out to name her after.  At the time she was very skinny and fragile looking so the first few we thought of did not work for her (Fran, Cindy, Helen, Nancy, and Kelly). Of course we left out a few because we realized that those names may not work. One of our members decided that for now we would call her “Burpee”. Marilyn, having never heard of CrossFit, made an appointment for her at Summerwood Veterinary Clinic, and named her “Grace”. Grace works perfect for her not only because of her situation but because “Grace” is also 30 Clean & Jerks for Time in the CrossFit World.

 Again, any donations will be sent to the Baytown Humane Society for all the help they have done to help Grace.
