Hi everyone!
My name is Vitaly, I am 48y.o., used to be a chef, but because of a back injury (vertebrae compression fracture), I've been on disability for the last six years.
Because of the constant use of painkillers and diabetic medications (around 20 pills and injections), I have developed a condition called xerostomia (dry mouth). It's not just extremely unpleasant, it's greatly affected my dental health. Tooth decay became uncontrollable, no matter what I was doing to get it under control. The lack of saliva has caused the growth of the tooth-decaying bacteria in a very tricky place, at the gum line, and between the teeth. I've used artificial saliva, prescription toothpaste, flossing... Nothing worked. My teeth just keep breaking, leaving behind only roots, which are then cutting my tongue and inside of the cheeks with their sharp edges.
Needless to say, this has had a huge impact on my life.
All my food needs to be ground or blended because I can't bite or chew. I miss the feeling of biting an apple or making cucumber salad... All crunchy foods have to be avoided.
I am ashamed of talking to other people, smiling or laughing are off the table too. I have a feeling that I am becoming increasingly socio-phobic.
I have consulted two different dentists and their verdict sent me to hell - all of my remaining teeth and roots have to be removed and replaced with artificial ones. Dentures are not an option because of dry mouth, dental implants are needed.
The cost of the procedure is unrealistic for me, it's almost a 3-year worth of my current disability allowance... 30.000 euros
I've contacted my bank hoping that I could get a loan, but no luck. I have tried to get help from HSE, but they refused to help. A doctor in the UHL told me that it was my problem.
And I don't know where else I can get that money.
It took me a while to get to this platform and ask for your help. That is, if you can, of course. Thank you for reading my story. Feel free to share it on your social networks, because the more people will see it the higher the chances that someone donates. It will mean a whole lot to me if you decide to support me.
Thank you!
Just a quick update:
