Update 7/7/13.
Well, maybe a miracle but Gizmo checked out perfectly healthy today at the vet! About 4 weeks ago she was barely with us. Since June, she has gone from barely over 1lb to 2.4lbs today. She is still thin but the overall improvement has been incredible. Jenn surely had something to do with this. Blood tests came back fine, no worms, no ear problems, and nothing else so we are going to start the process of her vaccinations, etc. Even though our costs have exceeded $300, I am closing this campaign as I should be able to afford her ongoing treatment at this point since she will not need a blool transfusion.
Update 7/2/13. Gizmo is doing better. Her appointment is Saturday 7/6 and I will update you. I reduced the goal because I don't think she will need as much care as first thought. She missed her appointment last week. Unfortuately, I have even worse news, Jenn passed away suddendly on June 25th so I am trying to keep everything together. I just noticed she posted this fundly for Gizmo so I needed to update it.
I drove two hours to rescue a kitten on the kill list at a shelter two hour away from me. She was literally one hour away from being euthanized until I was able to fight through so much red tape to put a hold oh her so I could pick her up the next day. They assured my husband and I that her health was good and that there was nothing wrong with her so we were very happy to take her home. We had fallen in love with her but there were two other adoptions ahead of us that fell through so we were able to adopt her. Needless to say we took her to our vet the next day and it was not good news. She ws diagnosed with a severe upper respiratory infection, severe skin dermatitis, and very severe anemia. The vet said if we waited two or more days to take her to the vet tht she may not have survived because her upper respiratory infection and anemia was so bad that it needed immediate aggressive treatment. She came home on nose drops, clavamox, and HiVite drops which she hates. She also came home with meds to clean her ears out. She hasn't meowed yet, she tries but nothing comes out yet....poor thing. She weigh 1lb 4 ounces when we rescued her. She was at the vet Thursday June 13th for her fist checkup and her follow up is on Wednsday june 19th. She was unable to be teated for fleas and worms or given any vacciations because of how sick and young she ws so maybe this visit she will be able to. She has already cost us over a couple hudred dollers and we are anticipating from what the vet has said that to get her well enough to get her immunizations, additional medications, microchipping (although she is an indoor only cat), and her spaying will probably run us around $1000.00 or more as long as nothing unexpected comes up. We are asking for your help because the shelter lied to us about her being in good health. We knew she woulld need vacciations but she is still too young, too sick, and does not weigh enough. We feel lke we were mislead by the shelter. But at least she is safe for now. we are asking for your help so we are able to keep her. If we cannot raise enough money, we will have to bring her back to the shelter where she eill eventually be put back on the kill list due to her illnesses!!! We do not want that to happen. Please help this precious baby get well and have a long happy life. i will keep everyone updated after each vet visit. She does not have a name yet so maybe you can all help us out with some suggestions...Thank You!!!!!!

ALTHOUGH THE LINK SAYS SHE MAY BE RETURNED TO THE KILL SHELTER, THIS IS NOT TRUE ANYMORE!!!! I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CHANGE THE LINK AS I AM NO COMPUTER GENIUS!!!! WE LOVE HER DEARLY AND SHE NEEDS TO GET WELL SO SHE CAN SPEND HER FUREVER HOME WITH US......THE SHELTER WILL JUST PUT HER DOWN AS SICK AS SHE IS...OUR NEXT VET APPOINTMENT IS ON THE 25TH AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER WITH A SPECIALIST THAT DEALS WITH BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS! PLEASE HELP US! We are a one income family who adopted this kitty thinnking she would only need normal kitten stuff like de-worming. vaccinations, spay etc and its turned out to be s much more. I had a career ending injury as a Paramedic so my husband is the breadwinner right now. But we do not throw our sick babies away to be put down..we do not do that to sick kids in group homes because there is no more space for them when they are ill........well I believe animals deserve chacnes as well.....they should make a huge open indoor/outdoor sanctuary for the cats who are healthy so they can run around and play...this will make more room in shelters...there were two shelters like this where I used to live in NY and they all seemed to get along just fine.....

normally we would not ask for financial help from people for a cat we adopted, but we thought she would only need the routine treatments like de-worming, treating for ear mites, vaccinations and spaying which would be affordable.....but then we got this bad news.....

we went back to the on june 19th vet for new blood work and the results were not good.....her white blood cell count actually increased from 20.84 to 27.05 which is very bad, it means she may have a serious infection.. (normal range is 5.5-19.5) Her hemoglobin went from 4.19-4.46 which is worse than what the vet had expected....(normal range is 8.0-15)the vet said it should have increased much more within one week......we go back to the vet for more blood work on june 25th to see where we stand.....the vet thinks she is definitely going to have to see a specialist for a blood transfusion..and this will cost us a couple thousand dollars......the shelter had said there was nothing wrong with her when we adopted her so I am very upset....but my husband and I are keeping her and will get her the treatment she needs.....unfortunately that puts a huge strain on us financially because I cannot work due to a disability so he is our only source of income.......but we do not give our pets back to the shelter just because they are sick....we are only asking for help for expected expensive treatments she will need.....she is very sick.....but WE ARE KEEPING HER!!!!!!!! We have named her Gizmo....she is now on clavamox, clindamycin which are both antibiotics and medicine for the anemia...but the vet said that its a 95 percent chance she will need a blood transfusion....

kitty went back to vet two days ago to repeat her blood work. It actually came back either as worse or as unchanged which means she is not improving.......on june 13th her white blood cell count was 20.84 (normal range is 5.5-19.5) and her hemoglobin was was 4.9 (normal range is 8.0-15) so the vet diagnosed her with severe anemia, skin dermatitis and an upper respiratory infection.....she came home on two meds....
