In April 2014, Bear Bones Books is publishing Hibernation, and other poems by bear bards, is an engaging collection of verse from more than 40 US / Canadian authors, comprising a “Who's Who of Queer Hirsute Literature.”
Over the three years I've spent compiling this wonderful collection of homomasculine verse, we have extensively considered the financial viability (and lack thereof) of poetry books, anthologies, and bear-themed books in general.
Will the bear community, with a mixed record for such things, support the book? Will anyone, including contributors, actually buy a bear poetry anthology these days? Maybe, but most likely not so much.
But the bear community needs this book, whether or not they will support it outwardly. A community of men like the Bears must produce art and literature that represent the inner desires of its men, and this collection of poems certainly fulfills that requirement.
With this modest fundraising appeal to the bear community, we can secure a positive financial outcome for the project, provide the community with its first poetry anthology, and give folks the chance to show their support for bear literature as one of the active creative arts by men of the bear persuasion.
So, because I feel the bears should have their own book of poetry, Bear Bones Books, which has been serving the bear community since 2008, is underwriting the production costs of Hibernation. If you feel enthusiastic about supporting bear literature, please order the book from your local bookstore or Amazon, and drop a few bucks in the fundly bucket.
All donors will be appreciated on www.BearBonesBooks.com unless anonymity is specified.
Thanks so much, with big bearhugs,
Hibernation editor, Ron J. Suresha
