This fall, five students from Pueblo Del Sol will be attending the best high school in Arizona. A major issue is that this high school has tuition costs and our students need help to attend their dream school!

Over the past three years, five boys - Abel, Christian, Javier, Joe, and Jose - have worked hard to go to their dream school - Brophy College Preparatory. By attending Brophy, these boys will be able to attend the college of their choosing. This school is extremely selective and requires applications, tests, essays, recommendations, interviews, and more. In our entire school history, there have been two boys total that have received admission to this prestigious school. All five of these boys were granted admission because of their hard work and determination. This school is a game-changer for our students. Every student that graduates from Brophy goes to a 4-year college or university. Arizona right now ranks 50th among states for percentage of high school graduates who attend college. These boys are determined to continue their education.
My colleagues and I have spent our entire teaching careers in low-income communities across Phoenix, and thus, have come to understand the unique challenges that many of our students face. Our neighborhoods are defined by the highest rates of violent crime in the state, the highest rates of teen pregnancy, a milieu of decrepit public services that perpetuate the social inequalities that our education and Teach For America inspired us to fight against. In this context, Abel, Christian, Javier, Joe, and Jose have achieved notable academic accomplishments that have happened because of their deep desire to learn. I have no doubt that these five students can go to college or have careers of their choosing, achieving their dreams, but in order to attend their dream school, they need help with their tuitions.
Any donation, big or small, will help these boys with their dream of attending Brophy. They will still be paying part of their tuition, but anything we can do to help will show the boys how much we believe in their stories, successes, and futures.
