What happens to a child when they are expelled or drop out of the traditional schooling system? Those that choose to continue their high school education usually find themselves in alternative schools. For many, this is the last chance for opportunities to work towards their goals. As an alternative school graduate myself, I know firsthand the struggles and complications that this often underserved group of students endures after high school. Many of these students are single parents or don't have active parenting role models. Living in multigenerational homes is the norm and usually requires long hours to help with food or housing. They know the benefits of finishing their education but are not exposed to the same experiences that many traditional students have available to them. These students need a Vital Start.
Vital Start was created as a stop-gap for high school seniors that are working hard to get their diploma but aren’t sure of what opportunities await them after high school. We certify students in American Heart Association CPR courses giving them a pathway into many STEM fields with a marketable skill set. These certifications are the first step for any career in the medical field and provide excellent hands-on training to give the confidence needed to act in an emergency situation. Through these classes, we are able to work with high schools to encourage students to continue their education through a community college or university programs.
Our programs will give a hand up to high school students who have had difficult life situations preclude them from traditional life experiences. With our passionate and experienced instructors, we are not only saving lives, we are changing them.
Your donations will go towards purchasing equipment and the ongoing cost of certifying our students with AHA CPR Cards. With $5,000 we will be able to start teaching classes and begin working towards sustainability. Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding our budget.
