Hurricane Ian / Milton Victims

Hurricane Ian / Milton Victims

From Carisa Hall

After losing our home in Hurricane Ian, we hired a contractor to help rebuild, He took our money, did not get proper permits, and left us with unfinished repairs. We trusted them during an already devastating time.

After the hurricane devastated the area, a contractor took advantage of the chaos and targeted vulnerable homeowners in desperate need of repairs. We were not the only ones in our neighborhood that were taken advantage of unfortunately. Promising quick and affordable fixes, he collected upfront payments but never returned to complete the work. We as one of his victims were left with incomplete, shoddy repairs and no recourse, further compounding distress in the aftermath of the disaster. His actions exemplified a callous disregard for the community’s suffering, especially  claiming to be a veteran.

After spending all of our savings, we are at a stand still. We need various permits to get our home up to code. I had to resign from my teaching position as a kindergarten teacher after moving to 4 different locations while the repairs were being done. We want to come home. We appreciate any help.
