Incight - Unlocking the Potential of People with Disabilities

Incight was founded in 2004 by Vail Horton, CEO of Portland-based Keen Healthcare Company, along with Scott Hatley, with the dream of changing two statistics: increase the 16% education attainment of Americans with disabilities and decrease the 76% unemployment rate. They collaborated on the creation of an organization that would, ultimately, affect these statistics.

Since 2004 Incight has been providing events and resources to individuals with disabilities in the Portland community, as well as in the Coachella Valley of California. Incight’s mission is “Unlocking the Potential of People with Disabilities.” Incight mission is accomplished by empowering key life-transitions of higher education, employment, and independent living. Incight delivers scholarships, resources and events. Our scholarships invest in a student’s education and internships. Our resources deliver valuable information about higher education, employment, and independence and tackle the three crucial topics of disability disclosure, advocacy, and accommodation. Our events connect clients to resources, schools, employers, facilities, and community. Our clients span from youth to adult. Our services support every type of disability. And most significantly, every relationship and activity we engage is laced with empowerment and inclusion; striving to debunk the stigma surrounding disability inclusion and capacity.

In the past eight years, we have mentored nearly 3,000 students on their path to college, awarded more than 760 college scholarships to students with disabilities, coached 1,500 jobseekers with disabilities, and introduced over 200 new athletes to adaptive sports such as handcycling and much more. Incight is unique due to our empowerment model; expecting our clients to be their best self and expecting society to let them.
