Jute Matting is a natural mat made from jute plant fibers. It helps stop soil from washing away. It also keeps moisture in the ground, which helps new grass and plants grow. It breaks down slowly and doesn’t harm the environment. Use it on slopes, gardens, riverbanks, or anywhere you want to stop erosion or plant new seeds.
Clear the area. Remove rocks, sticks, weeds, or trash.
Level the soil, especially on slopes.
If you’re planting seeds, spread them now.
Lightly water the soil before laying the mat.
Start at the top of the slope or highest point.
Roll the matting down the slope. Keep it flat on the ground.
Overlap each edge by at least 15 cm (6 inches).
Use landscape staples or pegs every 60–90 cm (2–3 feet).
Don’t pull the mat too tight. Let it follow the land’s shape.
Check the weather. Avoid windy or rainy days.
Press seeds into the soil before laying the mat.
Water lightly after you install it.
Stay off the mat once it’s down.
Check the mat each week.
Press down loose spots and add more staples if needed.
Keep animals and people off it while plants grow.
Once plants grow through, they’ll help hold the soil.
The mat will break down on its own over time.
• Not using enough staples
• Not overlapping the edges
• Leaving sharp objects under the mat
• Using it in flat, soggy areas
• Skipping regular checks
