Earlier this year, I joined the Advisory Board of a nonprofit called Global Glimpse, whose focus is on youth development and experiential education abroad.
Global Glimpse is a 501c3 not for profit organization working to inspire America's next generation to become responsible and successful global citizens through after school programming and transformative travel in the developing world. We currently partner with 45 public high schools in the Bay Area and New York to serve over 600 majority low income students annually. Our school-based program develops global competence, civic engagement, youth leadership, and college readiness, inspiring and empowering youth to become agents of change in their local communities and in the greater global community.
We have developed an innovative and sustainable grassroots funding model that leverages technology and volunteer support from public high school educators to make experiential education abroad accessible to students from all socioeconomic backgrounds. The model is highly scalable; we are 85% fee for service funded and we utilize foundation and individual contributions like yours to support growth as opposed to ongoing operations.
As a board member, I am involved in planning the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization, as well as spreading the word about what GG does and why it's important.
In demonstrating commitment to GG, board members are asked to raise a minimum Give/Get of $500, which goes towards supporting student scholarships and other program operations ($550 on Fundly due to service charges). Having gone through a similarly powerful experience in Chile as a high school student, I truly believe in the impact this organization can make in the lives of young people in the US and abroad.
