Danann O'Brien's L.C. Vocation Fund

Hello everyone, my name is Danann O'Brien. I've been decerning the priesthood for about a year and now I've decided to join the religious congregation the Legionaries of Christ. Unlike the priests you may know, a religious priest is not attached to a diocese and doesn’t tend to be assigned to parishes. Instead, we are the vanguard of Christ, bringing God to the people worldwide. We are, in essence, evangelists and our purpose or Charism is to fashion the Layman into evangelists by bringing the depth of the love of God and living an authentic Catholic life. I don’t know about you, but there seems to be a great feeling of hopelessness spreading in the world, and I believe the Legionaries of Christ are fighting to reclaim hope in our time and I want to be a part of that fight. 

The order is entirely funded by donations. It takes about $500,000 and 12 years to fashion one Legionary priest. This number doesn’t even include any other of the vast expenses it takes to run all the Order’s projects. That means they can’t take on any debt from their candidates, so before I join I must clear my debt. I am very grateful for the donations I have received so far, but I have about $21,000 dollars in debt remaining from my time in college.

I ask that you keep in mind that discernment is not final and I hope and pray to do the will of God. Yet, God may have other plans for me outside of the priesthood. That is why if you donate donate so I can discern the will of God. 

 If I discern out before I join the Noviciate come this August all Donations will be refunded. Once I officially become a novice, I will start applying the money to the debt. If by God's greatness, I raise more money than I need I will help out my fellow candidates who are struggling with the same student debt problems I have. If even I raise money beyond that I will give the money to the legion to help fund our formation. In this way no matter what, your money will go to the formation of legionaries in the dicernment.
