As an oncology pharmacist, I get to see the direct impact that research efforts have on patients. By cycling I get to do something that I love to raise awareness for this cause.

I get to work with an outstanding group of patients, doctors, family members, nurses, friends, and support crews to fight cancer every single day. On Friday, 9/18, I'm taking the day off of work to ride my bike a crazy amount of miles to try to raise money for cancer research.
Dr. Rafat Abonour can see the day when there’s a cure for multiple myeloma. Where patients once had a grim prognosis, many now live with the disease for decades. He and his team at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and IU Health lead efforts nationally to improve myeloma research and care for patients in Indiana and beyond.
For fifteen years Miles for Myeloma cyclists - a crew made up of myeloma researchers and medical caregivers, family members of patients and even a few patients themselves – have set out on the annual Miles for Myeloma ride. Though Covid-19 prevents an in-person ride or dinner in 2020, a virtual Miles for Myeloma will still allow us to work together to achieve a big goal to support myeloma research and patient care. This year, we’re asking everyone to join our team and log miles, donate and fundraise to help us reach the Myeloma Million.
Miles for Myeloma has raised more than 6.3 million since 2006. Thanks to donor support, research is focused on better understanding the disease and conducting clinical trials to explore new treatment options. Miles for Myeloma also supports enhanced patient care at IU Health. Myeloma is incurable, so research and enhanced care are our hope for the future.
Gifts to the Miles for Myeloma Fund at the IU Foundation support research at the IU School of Medicine and enhanced patient care at IU Health via the IU Health Foundation. Gifts and donor information will be shared with the IU Health Foundation. If you prefer your information not be shared, please contact Ashleigh Wahl at 317-278-5313 or [email protected]. The Indiana University Foundation solicits tax-deductible private contributions for the benefit of Indiana University and is registered to solicit charitable contributions in all states requiring registration.
