My name is Jack Merritt III, and I’m a recovering drug addict. I was recently released after serving eight months in jail, a consequence of choices that I’m working hard to leave in the past. This is my story—a story of redemption, determination, and the pursuit of a second chance.
Before everything fell apart, I had a taste of success. Last year, during a brief period of clarity, I managed to generate over $15,000 in revenue in just two months on Etsy.com. I also ran an eBay Store and a booth at a flea market. It was a turning point where I realized that I had the potential to build something meaningful. But life has a way of throwing curveballs, and I relapsed, leading to my incarceration.
The months I spent behind bars were some of the darkest days of my life. I lost everything—my freedom, my savings, and nearly my hope. I had to use every last cent I had to pay for jail expenses, fines, and court costs. But through it all, I managed to pay off my debts and get off probation. In that respect, I’m starting fresh, with no legal baggage holding me back.
But starting fresh comes with its own set of challenges. I have no funds to restart my business, and as much as I hate to admit it, I need help. The reality of running a successful online marketplace isn’t just about having the drive; it’s about having the resources. I need goods to flip, a website to showcase them, funds for advertising and marketing, and shipping supplies. An updated computer would be ideal, but for now, I’ll make do with my old HP from 2015. My car is paid off, but it’s the only asset I have.
I’m fortunate to have a place to stay with my father. He’s 74 years old, and I try to help him around the house as much as I can in return for his kindness. But I can’t stay here forever, and I’m ready to stand on my own two feet again. I know that with about $3,500, I could get my business up and running, and start rebuilding the life I want to lead—a life of sobriety, responsibility, and success.
I’m not one to ask for help easily, but this is a moment where I’m swallowing my pride. If you’re willing to invest in my dream, you won’t just be helping me—you’ll be helping to fulfill a dream of redemption. A dream of becoming a successful business owner, someone who has overcome the odds and turned their life around.
Thank you for considering being a part of my journey.
