In 2012, my dad and a group of Vietnam Veterans returned to Vietnam to build homes with Habitat for Humanity. Including that build, my dad has been to Vietnam with Habitat 5 times. After his first visit, each year he brought a family member with him to help build. To date, our family has helped to build 15 homes in Vietnam. This year, the whole family is going! Dad, Cindy and I will be building and Mom will be our support team!
It is such an honor to build with these Vietnam Veterans, to learn their stories and to see their healing from a war fought 50 years ago. We work side by side with the homeowners to give them a safe place to live and we are able to witness their pride in building their own home. In addition to sweat-equity, home owners provide materials and some financing for their homes. But they can't afford to build on their own.
That is where you and I come in. I will go do the building. Will you help by providing some financial support to help them build a safe home for their family?
I am sharing some photos above from my build in 2016. You will see the residents former home and their new home. The homeowners were living with their son under tarps. This is why we build. Will you help?
PS - I have included two videos on this page. Watch them! You will see what this is all about and why we do it. Plus they feature two of my favorite veterans, my dad and my sister. Thank you!
Our team will be comprised of Vietnam Veterans as well as veterans and family members of every era. Many of the members are returning with Habitat after having built in Vietnam and other Global Village locations.
This trip is for those who have served in our military and want to provide safe and affordable housing. By participating in this Vietnam Veterans Build in Vietnam, we will see the best in humanity by showing service to others.
Habitat for Humanity Vietnam, established in 2001, specializes in the implementation of sustainable, community-based shelter and water and sanitation solutions. It has experience in rehabilitating and repairing properties damaged by the severe weather that frequently strikes the country’s long coastline. Habitat also works with microfinance networks so families can save and access credit for home improvements, a speedy way to help thousands of families improve their sanitation and housing.
Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
