My Education and Sobriety Journey

More Info

Hello lovely people, my name is Dru, and I have an incredible story to share with you. I'm a 43-year-old recovering alcoholic from Charlotte, NC, and I am so grateful to be celebrating 9 months of sobriety. My journey to recovery has been challenging, but I am incredibly proud of the progress I've made. I used to struggle with depression and anxiety, which led to years of harmful drinking and ultimately 8 stomach surgeries. Despite overcoming these health challenges, depression crept back into my life, driving me towards alcohol once more. But here's the wonderful part - I made the decision to turn my life around. I took the brave step to commit to sobriety and have been in residential recovery since September 2, 2023. With only two months left until I complete the program, I'm filled with hope and determination. This milestone means a new beginning for me, as it will grant me the opportunity to re-enter the workforce after 9 months without income. One of the most significant developments on my journey is my return to college. In January, I embarked on a pursuit of knowledge, enrolling in Library and Information Technology. I'm committed to my studies, pouring my heart and soul into them during my limited free time. Unfortunately, my old laptop, which I used for my coursework, has recently failed me. I've researched moderately priced laptops, aiming for an option under $500 that will support my educational endeavors and future work. I'm reaching out to you for assistance in acquiring a new laptop, which will enable me to continue my summer classes and support me until I can secure employment. Any contribution, no matter the size, would make an immense difference in my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to me. Bless you all!
