On April 9th, 2024, our vital Ford F-150, affectionately known as 'Black Betty,' was lost to a tragic fire. This truck, driven by our passionate co-director Chino Hardin, was crucial in advancing our NuLegacy initiative.

NuLegacy connects New Yorkers whose lives have been devastated by incarceration to the regenerative power of nature and land.
Our beloved truck 'Black Betty' (F-150 Truck that blazed the trail for NuLegacy) was burned to ashes in a tragic incident. More than just a vehicle, Black Betty was the heart of NuLegacy, accompanying us on countless journeys of healing and growth for over a decade. Chino and Black Betty were a dynamic duo, with Chino at the wheel bringing our mission to life and Black Betty reliably carrying the vision of NuLegacy. Help us get a Nu-Truck for NuLegacy!
Our truck was instrumental in our outreach efforts, enabling us to transport supplies, facilitate educational programs, and ensure that participants could access the healing spaces we’ve cultivated. As we expand our projects like the stewardship of "The People’s Land" - our new farm land upstate - and further our urban initiatives, the need for a dependable vehicle becomes even more pressing.
We are seeking to raise $44,000 to purchase a used 2021 Ford F-150. This used/new truck will be pivotal in sustaining and expanding our efforts, allowing us to continue Chino’s dedication to fostering healing, promoting environmental stewardship, and enhancing community connections.
The impact of your support will extend far beyond physical transportation—it will empower ongoing healing, increase access to crucial hands on learning, and help maintain the momentum of our Human Justice and Healing Village making.
Your contribution will directly support the resilience and expansion of our mission, making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve. Donations are tax deductible, and to ensure maximum impact, we welcome contributions through various channels including check, Venmo, PayPal, and CashApp. For more information or to make a donation, please contact us at [email protected].
Thank you for standing with us as we work to overcome this challenge and continue our vital work. Together, we can keep the spirit of Black Betty alive and thriving in the heart of our community!
