From Deborah Porter

To launch free training programs for underserved communities, we need to secure a license from the New York State Education Department. This is the final step in our registration process.

The Story of YES Workforce: A Founder’s Journey

Growing up in an underserved community, I saw firsthand how easy it was to lose hope. Opportunities were scarce, and many people around me felt stuck in a cycle of struggle. But my life changed when I discovered the power of education. It opened doors I never knew existed and gave me the confidence to pursue a better future.

That transformation is what inspired me to create YES Workforce.

Why YES Workforce Was Created

For over 10 years, I’ve worked in workforce training, helping people from disadvantaged communities gain the skills they need to succeed. However, I noticed that many programs failed to truly connect with the people they were supposed to serve. Individuals often felt like they had been left behind and doubted their potential.

Because I had lived that experience, I understood their struggles. I wanted to design a training program that did more than just teach skills—it needed to restore hope and build confidence. And so, YES Workforce was born in 2023 with plans to open in Fall 2024-2025

The Process Behind YES Workforce

Over the past decade, I created a process that focuses on three areas: community involvement, employer partnerships, and technology. We work with the community to ensure our programs meet their needs, partner with employers to design training that leads to jobs, and use technology to make learning engaging and relevant for today's workforce.

Why Funding Is Critical

To take YES Workforce to the next level, we need to obtain a New York State Education Department License. This license would allow us to offer state-recognized training programs and pursue state funding, expanding our impact even further.

However, there is a $6,000 fee required to secure this license. This funding is crucial for us to formalize our programs and open up opportunities for additional financial support. With this license, we can bring more resources into our community and continue to transform lives through education and training.

The Vision of YES Workforce

YES Workforce is about more than just skills training—it’s about giving people the tools, support, and hope they need to create a better future. I know education can change lives because it changed mine. Now, through YES Workforce, I’m committed to helping others in my community discover their potential and achieve their goals.
