El Salvador Mission Trip, August 10-18, 2013

I'm headed back to El Salvador in August where, together with friends from my church, I will spend a week building relationships and building homes for people who live with very little in the way of material possessions. But what they lack in financial wealth is more than made up by their depth of spiritual wealth. The only country in the world named after "Our Savior" is reflective of the lives of the people who walk daily with prayer and scripture. While we may be helping them build new homes, they are also helping us build faith and a deeper understanding of Jesus' call to love our neighbor. You can join us in this mission. Your donation however small will help fund the cost of building materials as well as covering some of the costs of our stay in El Salvador. Every contribution is a small act of changing the world and will be recognized with a special "gift" from El Salvador.
Home to almost 6 million people, El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. Still struggling with the consequences of a 12-year civil war and constantly affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes and tropical storms, almost 3 million Salvadorans live in inadequate housing.
Since 1992, Habitat for Humanity El Salvador has provided more than 7,400 housing solutions, providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for more than 37,000 Salvadorians.
We invite you to join our Global Village team in partnering with families in need to help build safe, affordable, decent homes.
Thrivent and Habitat
From the first nail to the last, building a home with Habitat for Humanity International is a profound experience for all involved. It’s not just sticks and blocks. It’s tears and smiles, borne of hard work and faith. And it’s the knowledge that you’ve helped change lives.
That’s why Thrivent Financial for Lutherans works with Habitat. And it’s why we want to do more. Much more. Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity engages Lutheran congregations, Thrivent chapters and members, Habitat affiliates, and individuals from across the United States and around the world to build hundreds of homes per year with families in need, provide mission trips for Christian outreach in local and foreign communities, and directly reduce poverty housing and homelessness around the world.
Part of Thrivent Financial’s mission as a faith-based membership organization is caring for others. Participating in this program with Habitat is a prime example of this mission in action.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
