In the last two years we have powered 125 clinics in the DRC with solar to provide basic electricity needs. Only 3 of these clinics have access to refrigeration. Our goal is to get 10 clinics solar powered refrigeration.

We are up to $9,100 raised of our $10,000 goal, which means we have powered 91 clinics with solar in the DRC! Our campaign closes tomorrow. Can you help us light up our remaining 9 clinics?
Please consider supporting the joint efforts of Strides for Africa and NovoMoto to bring solar power refrigeration for reliable vaccine, transfusion, and medicine refrigeration to 10 clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The improved clinic refrigeration would be available to over 100,000 patients a year. Each contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps.
Earlier this year we successfully installed solar kits which provided lighting and phone charging at 125 health clinics in the eastern part of Kinshasa in the DRC. Nearly 8,600 patients are seen each month and over 13,600 babies have been born at these clinics since they received their solar kits.
“I could never have imagined that one day our clinic would be lit in this way. NovoMoto has brought us a bit closer to a modern clinic setting."
Only 3 out of the 125 clinics have access to refrigeration. Reliable refrigeration is essential to prevent the degradation of stored blood, vaccines and medicine. The ten clinics chosen for this next phase will be based on location, and staff expertise such that the most number of patients will be served and the clinic will have the ability to pay for maintenance of the system.
Every contribution will support these identified clinics to deliver higher quality service to their patients, which we feel is currently quite important during our ongoing pandemic. Our team consists of the nonprofit, Strides for Africa and our in-county implementation partner, NovoMoto LLC
Each refrigeration kit costs $1200 and will include:
Solar powered refrigeration will give reliable cooling for:
Storing blood: There are over 14,000 blood transfusions that are needed each year.
Vaccines: There are 16,000 children born at the clinics who should have access to vaccines that can reduce infant mortality.
Insulin: 5% of the population in Kinshasa have diabetes requiring insulin doses
Future project alert: After the $12,000 milestone is reached, the next $3,000 of the raised funds through this campaign will go towards funding a water well in the Kinshasa district that will further support the region where our clinics are located.
Frequent updates will be posted on this platform as well as on our Facebook pages - “Strides for Africa”, “NovoMotoLLC” so that you can follow our progress.

We have loaded several offline donations that came in for this campaign in late December and early January, and we have good news to report! We are 2/3 of the way towards reaching our fundraising campaign goal!
This means that 66 out of 100 clinics have been funded, which is incredible when you think of the impact this change will make for these clinics. Thank you so much to all who have contributed to date!
Work has begun on the first 30 clinics that have been identified by the NovoMoto implementation team on the ground in DRC!
