Update #2

Every day each of us are fortunate enough to wake up with a roof over our heads, food on our tables, and clothes to wear. This is normal to us, not a luxury.  But, imagine not knowing where you are going to sleep tonight.  Now imagine sleeping outside on a brutal winter night.  Imagine not knowing when or where you will eat your next meal.  This is what is normal for Milwaukee’s homeless population.

Poverty is right on our doorstep, and on Thursday, September 22nd, 2016, you have the opportunity to help the Milwaukee Rescue Mission provide not only food and shelter, but also structure, education, life skills and employment help.  For the past eight years I have worked closely with the residents at the Mission and watched person after person get not just a hand out but a hand up in life.  They leave the Mission with new skills, hope and new vision for their future.

I hope you can make it  to the Wisconsin Club from 5-7:30 pm to help the most vulnerable citizens of our city find a fresh path forward.   Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2016 . 5 - 7:30 PM . WISCONSIN CLUB

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission provides homeless men, women, and children with emergency aid, such as food, shelter, and clothing, as well as long term assistance. The Mission also operates rehabilitation programs that include education, job training, addiction recovery, and life-skills classes. Finally, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission provides at-risk children with a quality education through its Cross Trainers Academy and supports local families in need through other programs.

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission runs completely on private donations, and that is why we at Birdsall Law Offices, S.C. put on this fundraiser every year. It is a great way for us to  give back to the community; a way to offer help now and hope for the future.

100% of the proceeds go directly to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission and the programs they offer. The following are some of the areas your assistance will help fund:

  • SAFE HARBOR - When Homeless men need a place to go to rebuild their lives Safe Harbor offers comprehensive services to help them. Services include food, shelter, long and short-term help, counseling and assistance for recovery from substance abuse. Depending on the desire of the individual, long-term programs are available. These programs offer help to men who want to overcome their addictions and rejoin the community.
  • JOY HOUSE - When homeless mothers and their children arrive at Joy House, they are often seeking shelter from a storm that goes far beyond the discomfort of wind and snow. Today, nearly 40% are fleeing from domestic violence. However, job loss, fire, basic poverty, and addiction are also driving forces. Joy House has a range of short and long-term solutions--including shelter, training programs, child care, counseling, and educational programs.
  • CROSS TRAINERS ACADEMY- recognizing the need to provide a quality education for homeless and at-risk children in the Milwaukee Community, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission opened Cross Trainers Academy in 2006. Through diligent work, students gain the skills to be successful in their academic efforts. A full range of classes is offered, including reading, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, music, and art.
