We have almost reached our goal. I have adjusted our goal amount based on cash contributions received. Only $1,100 left. Contribute now before it's too late. Be a part of the restoration!!
Scope of Work
v Document the entire tomb and surrounding site. (Record dimensions of the tomb and the tomb foundation, in addition to photographing the current condition of tomb.)
v Remove all organic material from the tomb surface and carefully excavate debris in areas where soil buildup is present.
v Sound test the tomb for areas of delaminated stucco. (Record and mark areas where the stucco has become detached from brick substrate.)
v Remove all deteriorated and failing stucco found while sound testing.
v Carefully remove any Portland-cement patches. If it is determined that doing so will cause damage to the underlying masonry, then the cement will be grinded back until it is at the original thickness of the surrounding stucco.
v Evaluate the masonry that is exposed after removing the stucco. (Remove the mortar that has failed but is not an immediate structural concern, document any deteriorated, fractured or loose bricks that will need re-laying or replacement.)
v Rake out all superficial fractures (1/8” or less) that are present in areas where the stucco is firmly attached.
v Rake out all major cracks in the stucco and evaluate the stucco surrounding the area. (It will most likely be necessary at this time to rout out the cracks in order to repair.)
v Re-lay previously discovered loose bricks and repoint all joints in need of repair with an appropriate mortar. (Leave mortar recessed to create a key for stucco.)
*The majority of the bricks that form the first and second tier on the roof will need to be relayed. This area will constitute approximately half of the work required to restore the tomb.
v Fill superficial fractures (1/8” or less) with a Hybrid Silane Polyether sealant. (Sealant is used in thin fracture lines where stucco may not successfully fill the cavity.)
v Grind the concrete below the existing closure tablet and prepare the surface for stucco.
v Apply stucco to the entire tomb at an even thickness.
*Due to the deterioration of the original stucco skin the tomb requires an overlay of fresh stucco. This will protect the masonry structure and will restore the tomb to its original dimensions. The distance between the existing stucco and the marble jambs and head around the closure tablet is approximately the thickness that will be required.
v Cut and grind smooth the few inches of the neighboring plots concrete edging that extends past the front of the Coueve tomb.
v Install two custom made “planters” on each side of the closure tablet.
v Thoroughly clean the entire tomb and remove all foreign debris and contaminates from the tombs surface.
v Clean the marble closure tablet and surrounding marble frame with a biological solution formulated for natural stone.
v Apply two coats of a potassium silicate paint onto the tomb. (Color is to be determined by family.)
v Apply a gold leafing stone paint to the closure tablet inscription, followed by two applications of a clear coat.
v Install a marble or artificial stone cross onto the roof of the tomb.
*This estimate includes the mounting of all additional ornamentation onto the tomb. The cross and any additional ornamentation will be supplied by the family.
