Dear Friends and Supporters,
Early in my career, I took a leap of faith and set out on a journey as a science teacher aboard a sailing expedition called Around the Americas. This voyage, encircling the American continents to raise awareness of our changing climate, ignited my passion for ocean conservation and sustainability. It was a transformative experience that shaped my path forward as a leader in this field.
Today, nearly fifteen years later, I stand ready to embark on another pivotal journey with Homeward Bound—an organization dedicated to empowering women in STEMM fields to build a more equitable and sustainable world. This program resonates with my belief that women bring unique and valuable solutions to the multiple global crises we currently face that need to be nurtured and amplified.
For anyone unfamiliar with Homeward Bound, the aims of the program include:
To significantly enhance participants’ leadership, strategic and visibility skills so that they are better equipped to effect positive outcomes in their sphere of influence as well as in the wider world.
To deepen participants’ relationship with science and policy as it informs what is happening to our planet.
To build a global and exponentially expanding network of deeply skilled women with a background in STEMM – who are committed, compassionate, personally self-aware, able to accept and give constructive feedback, each seeking to increase her visibility on behalf of the whole.
At the culmination of the program our global cohort will gather together for an exciting and challenging expedition to further push the limits of our self-discovery. The location has yet to be revealed though past cohorts have traveled to Antarctica.
In the course of my career, I've earned a master's degree in Environmental Management & International Development, founded a biotechnology company combating seafood fraud, and led initiatives to improve fishing and aquaculture practices, as well as human rights worldwide. Driven by the desire to solve problems from different angles, I have worked in multiple sectors and regularly adapt my tools and approach. I continue to seek opportunities to uplift coastal and food producing communities - partnering together to secure a healthier ocean and global food system.
My goal is to strengthen my role as a leader and advocate through the Homeward Bound program. To achieve this, I am seeking your support with a fundraising goal of $12,000 USD. This will cover program fees and expedition costs, allowing me to fully participate and contribute to our cohort's collective journey towards leadership and sustainability.
Your support will not only further my career but also contribute to empowering women in STEMM to tackle global challenges.
Thank you for joining me on this important journey.
