Please enjoy this beautiful bio written about Sam:

Sam Nolte was a witty person, the type to get under your skin because he was always so quick with his words. This came in handy when working up at Alta and the last helping of Sunday dinner was up for grabs (and Sam could eat A LOT). For the three years Sam worked up at Alta he established himself as Grill-master and Cat driver. Which was quite inconvenient for his co-workers because he always hid the Oreos when unloading the Cat. Sam was a kind-hearted person, for all the Oreos he hid, he made it up to the crew by constantly making home-made cookies. He loved blaring “96 degrees in the shade” by Third world and “I look good” by O.T Genasis at Alf’s any chance he had.
He was always neck deep in powder and he did anything to have first tracks, even if that meant, “no friends on powder days”, he was dedicated to the powder. When he wasn’t skiing he’d snuggle with Chairman Meow (the Alf’s crew cat), watch his favorite soccer team, Liverpool F.C, and defeat the whole crew in foosball. In the off-season, Sam visited his grandparents in Nebraska and in 2021 he completed the PCT trail of 2,650 miles.
Sam’s life was one to cherish, he will be remembered for skiing Alta with his antics, cheetah speedo and his contagious smile that would light up the mountain. Despite that bright smile of his, he hid his battle for depression. Even surrounded by a community like Alta, it can feel lonely, Sam’s grant provides the importance that you are not alone in this battle and it’s okay to get help.

More Info

Sam Nolte was a kind soul who grew up in California, moving to Utah to chase the legendary powder at Alta. Sam spent three years working at Alf’s Restaurant, earning the title of Grill-Meister and Cat Driver. In the off-season, Sam spent his time thru-hiking throughout the west. His accomplishments include completing the PCT in 2021 and surviving a ruptured appendix solo in the backcountry.

Despite his time spent neck deep in the Utah powder, Sam never left his love for Los Angeles or their sports teams behind. The only thing that could pull him from a ski day was a soccer match. Sam loved the simple things in life, like warm chocolate chip cookies, hang sessions with Chairman Meow (the Alf’s Crew cat), competitive games of foosball, and the feeling of sunshine on his back as he sped down the slopes in a cheetah print speedo. He made everyone’s life a bit more interesting and will be remembered for his sense of humor and a contagious smile that would light up your day.

In honor of Sam, friends of Sam have come together to accept donations to create the Sam Nolte Memorial Grant. This grant is a one-time fund supported by Alta Community Enrichment (ACE) in the town of Alta, Utah. The grant will be given to one individual that has worked/lived at Alta to assist with funds needed to seek mental health services of their choice.

If you would like to donate to the Sam Nolte Memorial Grant you can do so below. The donation period will end May 1, 2022 and we will begin the steps towards creating an application for the grant. Keep your eye out on @alta_community_enrichment's Instagram to see when the grant will be released.

Rest in Powder, Sam.

Update #2

We want to thank everyone again for the donations we have received to fund the Sam Nolte Memorial Grant fund in Alta, Utah.

Give Alta Community Enrichment (ACE) a follow (@alta_community_enrichment on Instagram) or altacommunity.org to be updated on the grant.

We are making the Sam Nolte Memorial Grant public on May 1, 2022, and will post updates throughout the month on ACE's social media. The grant will be open during the entire month of May, which is also Mental Health Month. We have decided to award two male-identifying individuals who have worked and lived in Alta in the last 5 years $750 each to use half towards therapy and half toward benefitting their mental health further.

After the unexpected snowstorm in Little Cottonwood this weekend we especially had our minds on Sam and his love for a fresh and deep powder day. None of this would be possible without all of your contributions and it's been incredible to see just how much Sam impacted our lives in one way or another. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

Update #1

Thank you all so much for getting us to our goal in less than a week. After having a memorial for Sam last Tuesday, Alta has been non-stop snowing and we've been able to have some amazing powder days this week while making turns in honor of Sam.

We will continue to accept donations for now and any funds over our goal of $500 will still go towards the recipient of the grant in order for them to receive mental health services for a longer span of time. Thank you all again for making it possible to honor Sam in this way.

Keep an eye out on @alta_community_enrichment for updates on the grant. We couldn't have done this without the support of Sam's friends/loved ones and Alta Community Enrichment.
