I’m a carrier of the traits. Sickle cell has been in my family since forever. My younger brother had the full blown disease and passed away from it awhile ago. Died very young . My older female cousin had the full blown disease and passed away from it a few years after having her first child. My oldest daughter was born with the disease and got sick from meningitis at the age of one and almost died in the process of curing it. The medicine they gave her to save her life made her lose her hearing now she is legally deaf. I call her my miracle baby because she had an aneurysm and a seizure to where she had to get brain surgery. A lot happened to her to be able to cope with that near death experience. My youngest daughter has the disease also and she has her trials and tribulations being sick and a single mother in the process. So my Goal is to start a nonprofit organization that will provide the funds needed to make life easier for sickle sufferers. The most sickle cell is funded every year is around $8,000 a year compared to other nationally funded blood disorders.
