Help us produce new queer theater.
Speechless is more than a play, it's a community project that we are building together. In 2017 AIDS Activist Daniel DeLoma founded Project and Connect, with the mission to preserve and share the stories of people living with HIV and AIDS. After having collected over 200 stories from the community, he enlisted theater artist Adam Odsess-Rubin to create a play based on these stories which eventually evolved into Speechless, the name taken from one of the stories collected by Project and Connect.
Wading through dozens and dozens of stories, some heartbreaking, some funny, and most insightful, DeLoma and Odsess-Rubin landed on eight to theatricalize. They partnered with Theaterlab in New York City to host the performance and Spaceworks to host rehearsals. Odsess-Rubin pulled together a group of outstanding professional actors and designers from NYC's theater community and together they crafted these eight community stories in the play soon to premiere as Speechless.
But they need your help. Putting on a play is expensive, especially when it comes from this model of grassroots community organizing. We at National Queer Theater make it a priority to pay our artists well and create a welcoming and safe environment for our audiences. To help pay back some of the costs from the production, and continue supporting queer communities through social justice in the performing arts, we are asking for your generous donation today. Your support will go towards paying hardworking artists as well as NQT's new works and education programs.
