$2 K!!! Really, you all are amazing. Thanks for all of the help! I'm entering the final 2 weeks of fundraising so please continue to spread my page to others.
Thanks for visiting my page! My name is Sumat and I am one of a few lucky participants to be chosen to help fundraise and lead a project to help Journey Within Our Communities (JWOC) build out their learning center in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Thanks to Box and Team4Tech, I am given the opportunity to participate in such an amazing endeavor. Please help me out as well so we can make this project a success!
Here are a few quick facts about the impact of JWOC's program and education in Siem Reap and Cambodia in general:
In Cambodia, education is not free
An estimated 53% of the population in Siem Reap are living under the poverty line meaning that many children in the area are forced to give up school and help their families instead.
A bit more about me, I am the youngest of three children of parents who had immigrated from Cambodia in the late 80s. This project for me is more than just an amazing opportunity to give back, but an opportunity for me to come back full circle on my own personal family history.
Growing up, my parents always stressed the importance of an education. I wasn't really sure what experiences had driven this lesson in to my parents until I had visited Cambodia for the first time.
I am happy to say that the experience I had as a kid helped motivate me to succeed in school and help me to where I am today. Now that I am able to, I'd love to be able to give back to the place that my parents call home and the place that helped drive me to succeed.
Thank you so much for your support, not just from me, but from the people of Siem Reap.
Our team of 10 Box employees and two Team4Tech staff will be working with Journeys Within Our Community, a non-profit organization in Siem Reap, Cambodia to help improve learning outcomes for 700+ students via their after-school educational programs. We are funding and supporting the integration of tablets and other educational technology into their English and science classes to help their students build 21st Century skills leading to expanded economic opportunities.
Team4Tech is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities in developing countries. We take teams of technology industry volunteers on two-week service projects in support of innovative non-profit organizations working to improve education in their local communities. Volunteers are able to leverage their skills and passions to implement technology solutions that benefit teachers and students.
Team4Tech volunteers raise funds to cover the cost of their trips and to contribute to the grants that Team4Tech makes to our project partners to support the purchase of necessary hardware, software and peripherals required for project implementation.
Please support our volunteers who are working to make a difference for thousands of students around the world.
