More Info

My name is David Sawicki. I am 56 years old and live with Cerebral Palsy. I have been wheelchair-bound my entire life, but I worked hard to earn a 1991 BADS with a minor in Psychology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. I am proud to live independently.

Now, I am floundering in unanticipated debt. Copper, my emotional support dog, died after a long and expensive battle with cancer. I had to borrow money to pay vet bills. Furthermore, after almost a year at the shop, my wheelchair accessible van still is not working right. I am still making payments on the van and its repair. These expenses raised my debt to $28,000. Before these expenses, I was able to survive and make small but regular payments on the debt I have carried for years. Now, I am no longer able to make headway on reducing my debt.

I have been living on my SSDI check of about $1,500 a month. I pay rent, electric, gas, and phone. I do have internet but canceled my cable TV. I get food stamps, but they have been reduced to 25 dollars a month.

I have not been successful at finding a job that will allow me to work in spite of my disabilities. It kills me to ask anyone for help, but I don’t know what else to do. I have asked for financial advice. Banks want me to have a co-signer. A debt consolidation company can close my credit cards and cut my monthly payment by half, but it will take me years to pay the debt off and I will have no credit.

I would greatly appreciate your support or donation to help me reduce my debt so I can get back on my feet and be able to live again.

Sincerely,

David Sawicki
