A Note From Elliot-
My name is Elliot Kubick and I am a 5th grader at Silverthorne Elementary School. I have lived in Summit County my whole life and have attended SVE since Kindergarten. Next year I will set out to accomplish a life goal. I am going to trek 85 miles to Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal and I couldn’t be more excited about it. I have been hiking 14'ers with my mom since I was seven years old and now have climbed 15 of them! Getting to Everest Base Camp has been a dream of mine and also for my mom for a long time. Now I am strong enough to accomplish this goal, but I am in need of some financial support to make this dream come true.
I am asking for donations of any kind from my community, friends, and family. Even $5 is so much appreciated because every dollar counts. I am saving all my spare money and my family is too, so my mom and I can go. I sold Gourmet Lollipops to my classmates this winter to raise money. I am starting a Dog Walking business with my mom this spring to earn some money for this adventure. My mom has been a teacher in Summit County for 20 years and counting while my dad works for Summit County Government as a snow plow driver. This trip is going to be costly for my family, and I am so hopeful that you would consider sponsoring me for this trip. I need to raise about $5,000 for myself. Besides plane tickets and a guiding company, I will need items such a lightweight yet very warm sleeping bag, sunglasses for high elevation, new hiking boots as I’m always growing, and a lot of other gear. So far I have saved about $200. If you would like to contribute to my effort, I will make sure to give you lots of social media shout outs and support you back in any way I can.
From Andrea (Elliot's Mom): Jeff and I feel badly that we can't just snap our fingers and make this happen for him. This is however, a great learning opportunity for him. Elliot and I are doing a lot of reading and researching on the expedition, gear that is needed, how much money we need to save, and how to save better. I love that he is so passionate about this and I sincerely hope we can help make this happen for him because this experience is life changing.
What Will Elliot Gain From This Experience?

Children will learn to push their boundaries, overcome challenges, and develop resilience in the face of difficulties. This experience fosters a sense of determination and confidence that can positively impact their lives.
Appreciation for nature and the environment: The Everest region’s awe-inspiring natural beauty provides an ideal setting for children to connect with nature. They will witness stunning landscapes, majestic mountains, and unique flora and fauna. This exposure can cultivate a deep appreciation for the environment, encouraging them to become responsible stewards of the Earth.
Cultural awareness and diversity: The Everest Base Camp trek offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Sherpa people and the local communities. Children can interact with locals, visit ancient monasteries, and learn about their traditions, values, and way of life. This exposure promotes cultural awareness, tolerance, and a broader understanding of diverse cultures.
Geographical and geological learning: The trek presents an excellent opportunity for children to learn about geography and geology firsthand. They can witness the world’s largest glaciers, understand the formation of mountains, and observe the impact of natural forces on the landscape. This immersive experience brings their classroom learning to life.
Teamwork and social skills: Trekking with a group fosters teamwork and social skills in children. They learn to communicate, cooperate, and support one another, realizing the importance of collective effort. This shared experience builds bonds and friendships, teaching them the value of collaboration and empathy.
Personal growth and self-discovery: The Everest Base Camp trek encourages children to step out of their comfort zones and discover their true potential. They may develop new hobbies, uncover hidden talents, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
