I am a first-generation student at Hampton University and seek financial support to further my education and study abroad. This funding will ease financial pressures, allowing me to focus on my studies and pursue global learning opportunities. Studying abroad is essential for my academic and personal growth, helping me gain global perspectives that will enhance my career goals, as I hope to become an International Lawyer focusing on Human Rights. Your support will allow me to make the most of my college experience and contribute to my community. Thank you!
My name is Cloriesa Darden, and I am a second-year International Studies major with a focus on International Relations and a Spanish minor, on the Pre-Law Track, from Jacksonville, North Carolina. I come from a working-class family, which is why I am committed to making the most of my education and gaining the best experience possible. I am fortunate to attend Hampton University, a private Historically Black University in Hampton, Virginia, founded in 1868, with the help of scholarships. However, scholarships and financial aid do not cover all expenses, so I work whenever possible.
As a first-generation college student, navigating university life can be challenging, especially being away from home. Despite this, I have adapted well and am learning a great deal about myself. I love being involved in my community and meeting new people. Over the years, I have participated in pageants both locally and nationally, winning several of them, which led me to pursue modeling as a hobby.
In addition to pageantry and modeling, I am the founder and leader of Blanket Ministries, a nonprofit organization I created in 2016. Through this initiative, I donate blankets, hygiene products, and other necessities to women’s shelters and people in need. Volunteering and writing are also passions of mine. I co-authored a chapter in Road to the Crown, an inspirational book by Trinity Bush, alongside my pageant sisters. In my chapter, I shared my pageant journey to inspire others.
I also have a deep passion for working with children. My first job was in childcare, and I love seeing children grow and develop. Their curiosity and creativity are truly inspiring. At Hampton University, I continue my community service work while also holding leadership roles. I am the Misses of Hampton University’s Debate and Forensics Team, the secretary of Sigma Iota Rho National Honor Society, and an active member of several other campus organizations including the Fredye T. Davvy's Honors College.
